Direct from Cuba and New York City, Los Terrys is a family of musicians that combines the dynamic energy of the new Cuban jazz movement with the musical traditions that have survived and evolved over centuries. The ensemble’s unique blend of styles includes elements of folklore, classic charanga and modern jazz, creating a bridge across generations.
Eladio Terry, the patriarch, grew up surrounded by the music of the Afro-Cuban religions and learned the traditional drumming and vocal styles that date back centuries. A member of the legendary Maravillas de Florida, Eladio has long been an innovator in Cuban music, adding new elements of Cuban folklore and culture into the music and constantly evolving. Mr. Terry is considered a great chekeré master. Eladio’s influence on Cuban music is extraordinary, he has performed and toured with some of the most important figures in music: Chucho Valdes, Ernan Lopez-Nussa, Bobby Carcassés, Omara Portuondo, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, Tata Güines, José Luís "Changuito" Quintana, Miguel "Angá" Diaz, Columna B, Los Van Van, Orquesta Sensación, Maravillas de Florida, La Charanga de Oro, José María Vitier, Bebo Valdes and Cigala, Giovanni Hidalgo, John Santos, Wayne Wallace... just to name but a few in his music career that spans over 50 years of constant work. Following in Eladio's footsteps, Yosvany Terry (saxophone, chekeré) and Yunior Terry (bass/violin) are renowned jazz innovators, performing throughout the world.
