A week of dance in Yerba Buena Gardens this August culminates in a performance by the world renowned Smuin Ballet.

ALL OF THIS IS PART OF THE 2004 YERBA BUENA GARDENS FESTIVAL
Mission Street between 3rd and 4th Streets
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. July 19, 2004. Starting Sunday, August 22, the Gardens will come alive with dancers. On Sunday, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and the San Francisco Butoh Festival present "Elements" from 1pm to 2 pm performed by Lizz Roman and Dancers, Leigh Evans, and Carpetbag Productions. Butoh characters of a witch and tree are offset by work with flags, stilts, physical theater and contemporary dance. Monday August 23 through Friday August 27 from 12:30 pm - 1:30pm, ten Bay Area choreographers have been commissioned to create works to be performed at various sites of the Gardens. The week will culminate in a performance on Sunday, August 29 from 2pm to 4 pm by the world-renowned Smuin Ballet. These FREE performances are sponsored by Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, Summerfest, Smuin Ballet, and the San Francisco Butoh Festival.
The schedule of performances is as follows: (subject to change)
Sun. Aug. 22, 1-2 pm Butoh in the Gardens (see description above).
Mon. Aug. 23, 12:30 pm group A performs with installation artist and sound designer Mark Bartscher and laptop artist Cenk Ergun.
Danny Nguyen Dancers and Musicians perform "Thirty Years Cry for Our Country," to commemorate the fall of Saigon in 1975 and "The Aftermath,"an insight into the world of war victims.
Tues. Aug. 24, 12:30 pm Erica Rose Jeffery's new work is a collaboration with musician Allen Biggs and the Bucket Brigade, a youth percussion ensemble.
Writer/Director/Choreographer, Deborah Slater has created a new work with the Deborah Slater Dance Theater.
Wed. Aug. 25, 12:30 pm Mark Foehringer Dance Project, a contemporary ballet company, will create a new work by founder and choreographer Mark Foehringer and his company.
The XYandZ Project will use a variety of innovative movement-based apparatuses to perform their work which is based on contemporary social issues.
Thurs. Aug. 26, 12:30 pm Nancy Karp + Dancers will perform with the Green Street Mortuary Band.
Fellow Travelers Performance Group presents a performance collage where different groups of dancers merge, reform and flow across the landscape.
Fri. Aug. 27, 12:30 pm Kunst-Stoff will perform "Nik'N Mike," a new piece by Yannis Adoniou featuring 6 dancers, a DJ and solo clarinet.
Tongue creates an instrument that unites breathtaking athleticism, sinuous sensuality and idiosyncratic vocabulary filtered through the dynamic and powerful bodies of the dancers.
Then on Sunday, August 29 at 2 pm, the Smuin Ballet will perform "Come Dance Me A Song" and "Tango Palace" from its stellar repertoire. This 2004 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival presentation will be a highlight of the San Francisco summer arts season.
